ThermalRate™ System

System Overview

The ThermalRate™ System consists of one or more ThermalRate™ Monitors (TRM) along the line route. Each TRM includes:

• A ThermalRate™ Sensor mounted at the height of the line. The Sensor includes the conductor replica.
• A ThermalRate™ Controller mounted near ground level. The Controller includes the microprocessor and radio.
• An antenna for communication back to SCADA.
• A solar/battery power supply for installations where AC power is not available.

A radio and antenna are installed at the substation so that the substation RTU can query the TRM in standard DNP3 format. Non-licensed spread-spectrum communication is used. Protocol converters are available.
